Report: Eagles to interview Chris Harris for the defensive coordinator job

1

New Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is starting the search for his coaching staff. Following the news earlier today that the Philadelphia Eagles would allow Dave Fipp to search for other coaching jobs. The Eagles have reportedly begun interviewing for a new defensive coordinator., and rumors have circulated over possible candidates, but now, there is an official name on the list.

Washington Football Team’s defensive backs coach Chris Harris is the first coach to interview for the position.

Harris, 38, has been with Washington for only one season and is quickly rising the ranks. Previously he was a part of the Chargers staff as an assistant defensive backs coach from 2016 to 2019. Nick Sirianni and Chris Harris worked on the same Chargers staff together in 2016 and 2017.

Before becoming a coach in 2013, Harris was a safety in the NFL for eight seasons for four different teams. He made an All-Pro appearance in 2010. Sirianni and Harris were with the Chargers for two seasons together, so there is some history between them.

The Eagles are Harris’ first interview for any defensive coordinator position, but he has gathered a lot of praise over the years. Washington’s secondary was statistically much better than in previous years, and the young talent is up-and-coming. A large part of this is due to Harris’ coaching with the group.
