Flyers get embarrassed in 6-1 loss to Bruins

1

What an awful game by the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers get swept out of Boston as they have their first embarrassing game of the season as they lose to the Bruins 6-1.

Recap:

Period 1

To get the penalties started, Friedman hooked Frederic in the Flyers’ zone to put Boston on the game’s first power play. And it would only last for a few seconds.

The Bruins got right up to the Flyers’ goal. One shot goes to Carter Hart’s pad. The shot takes a bad bounce off the pad right to Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron, who shoots the puck past Hart’s skate into the net. Bruins lead 1-0.

Not much was happening in the first period. Not many penalties, not much actions, and just not a whole lot of anything.

Period stats:

Flyers: 4 shots on goal, 8 hits, 15 faceoffs won, 2 penalty minutes.

Bruins: 10 shots on goal, 11 hits, 7 faceoffs won, 0 penalty minutes.

After one period, the Bruins lead by a score of 1-0.

Period 2

It was a quick start for the Flyers as Voracek shot the puck from the right faceoff circle, the shot was deflected buy Kevin Hayes. The puck found itself into the net to tie the game up at one.

Just a few moments after, Craig Smith got a beautiful turn-around pass as Smith shot the puck into an empty side of the net to make the score 2-1.

Brandon Carlo drawled a roughing call, Bruins killed.

Charlie Coyle got whistled for tripping, Bruins killed, again.

Then, Charlie Coyle gets a beautiful pass from Fredrick right in front of the net, and Coyle taps it past Hart as Kevin Hayes appeared to get injured on the play. He was knocked down and was slow to get up. Not a good sign. 3-1 Bruins.

Period stats:

Flyers: 8 shots on goal, 5 hits, 8 faceoffs won, 2 penalty minutes.

Bruins: 6 shots on goal, 11 hits, 10 faceoffs won, 0 penalty minutes.

After two periods, the Bruins lead 3-1. At least the Flyers scored a goal in the period.

Period 3

Now is when the Flyers have to play good but they decide not to ask Brad Marchand scores, because why not? It was scored off of a Gustafsson turnover. It looked like Gustafsson didn’t want the puck.

Then Friedman gets called for interference. Friedman should know he can not do that. And of course, it leads to another Marchand goal. This one on the power play.

Now it’s 5-1.

This is the first time in his career that Carter Hart has allowed four or more goals in three consecutive starts. He’s permitted 13 goals in this three-game stretch.

There was a dirty cross-check on Konecny’s head half-way through the third. It doesn’t matter what level of refereeing you are at, that’s a call that should’ve been made. TK could’ve gotten severely injured on the play. Another bad call by the refs.

Bergeron scores on the power play to now make the score 6-1. Third power play goal led up by the Flyers.

This is the first time in a while that we can say the Flyers look dead. There is no positive way to look at this game other than they scored a goal. An awful loss by the team.

Game stats:

Flyers: 17 shots on goal, 24 hits, 32 faceoffs won, 8 penalty minutes.

Bruins: 26 shots on goal, 26 hits, 27 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.

The 3-2-1 Flyers will finally leave Boston as they will head to Newark to the 2-1-1 New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7:00 P.M. E.S.T.
