In a welcome announcement for students and staff, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is donating $200,000 to the School District of Philadelphia. This generous contribution will be used to purchase and install air conditioning units in 10 city schools that currently lack adequate cooling.

The lack of AC has been a persistent problem for the district, with dozens of schools struggling to maintain comfortable temperatures during hot weather. In fact, according to the district’s strategic plan, over 100 schools require AC upgrades or installations. This issue has even forced early dismissals on sweltering days, including the first days of the 2023 school year.

Hurts’ donation directly addresses this challenge by targeting 10 schools that were impacted by previous early dismissals. This will significantly improve the learning environment and comfort for students and staff in these schools.

An official announcement regarding the gift is scheduled for Friday morning at one of the beneficiary schools, with Superintendent Tony B. Watlington and Hurts himself in attendance.

The specific schools receiving AC units include Clara Barton School, Gloria Casarez Elementary School, Castor Gardens Middle School, D. Newlin Fell School, Thomas K. Finletter School, Fitler Academics Plus, Abram Jenks School, Edward Gideon School, Theodore Roosevelt School, and Science Leadership Academy at Benjamin Franklin High School.
