The Flyers have finally signed their No. 1 prospect, and it comes at just the right time.
They have officially announced that Porter Martone will sign a three-year, entry-level contract. Although he is not expected to play tonight against the Dallas Stars, he may play Tuesday against Washington and in the playoffs if the Flyers get there.

The 19-year-old was selected by the Flyers 6th overall in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft. He played his 2025-26 season at Michigan State, recording 25 goals and 25 assists in 35 games, including three points in the 2026 NCAA Tournament. He scored the game-winning goal against UConn in the Regional Semifinal. No. 1 Michigan State’s season ended after losing 4-3 to Wisconsin last night.
He led his team in both goals and points as a freshman throughout the season. His 24 goals were the third most among all NCAA skaters, and his 1.42 points-per-game average was third among freshmen, behind Ethan Wyttenbach and Gavin McKenna. He becomes the first player to sign an entry-level deal from the Flyers’ 2025 draft class and is the fifth prospect to sign with the Flyers in the last month. Martone was the only freshman on the All-Big Ten First Team, as well as being on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

The Canadian played three seasons in the OHL with the Brampton Steelheads from 2023-25, and the Sarnia Sting from 2022-23. Martone led the Steelheads with 98 points in 2024-25 as captain of the Steelheads, and was ranked seventh in the league in points that season. At the 2026 World Junior Championship, he captained Canada and led the tournament with 6 goals as Canada won bronze. He has represented Canada twice during the World Juniors, two World Under-18 Championships in 2023 and 24, one Hlinka cup in 2024, and an Under-17 World Hockey Challenge in 2023. Martone captained Canada to a gold medal at the World Under-18 Championship with 17 points in seven games.
Martone was recently ranked No. 27 on Elite Prospects’ 2026 top 100 under-23 list. His blend of size and dynamic offense has made him a prospect the Flyers have been watching and waiting for all season. He will enter as a pro during the biggest part of the Flyers’ season. Given how important the next few games are for the Flyers, it will be interesting to see where Martone fits into the lineup and whether he is ready for the challenge the NHL brings.
