Long-time Eagles’ offensive line coach and run-game coordinator Jeff Stoutland announced his decision to leave his position on Wednesday evening. Although looking forward, this is a major loss, it is also important to look back on what he gave to the city of Philadelphia.
Stoutland joined the team in 2013, and immediately he had an impact on the team’s culture, leading to the Eagles drafting a right tackle out of Oklahoma at 4th overall named Lane Johnson. Along with Johnson, Stoutland was also focused on developing a rising star center in Jason Kelce.
The season prior, in 2012, Philadelphia had an abysmal 4-12 record, along with no Pro Bowl/All-Pro linemen. However, the season after, 2 of the 5 linemen became All-Pros. On top of that, in Stoutland’s reign as the OL coach, there was never a season where the offensive line didn’t contain at least one Pro Bowl/All-Pro player.

On top of the offensive line’s success, the Eagles as a whole saw massive success after Stoutland’s hiring, making the playoffs in 9 of the following 13 seasons, and a total record of 128-84-1 and 3 Super Bowl appearances, 2 wins in 2017 and 2024.
Stoutland’s ability to develop players through his “Stoutland University” was never overlooked. This title wasn’t given without reason, as Stoutland’s unit has produced several Pro Bowlers and a deep list of other, impactful players. Notable graduates of “Stoutland University” include (all stats/awards in Stoutland era only):
- Jason Peters in 8 seasons: 4x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro First Team (2013), 1x All-Pro Second Team (2014), 1x SB Champion (2017), Hall of Fame likely
- Evan Mathis in 2 seasons: 2x Pro Bowl, 1x All-Pro First Team (2013)
- Jason Kelce in 11 seasons: 7x Pro Bowl, 6x All-Pro First Team (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023), 1x SB Champion (2017), Hall of Fame likely
- Lane Johnson in 13 seasons: 6x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro First Team (2017, 2022), 3x All-Pro Second Team (2021, 2023, 2024), 2x SB Champion (2017, 2024), Hall of Fame likely
- Brandon Brooks in 5 seasons: 3x Pro Bowl, 1x SB Champion (2017)
- Jordan Mailata in 6 seasons: 1x All-Pro Second Team, 1x SB Champion (2024)
- Landon Dickerson in 5 seasons: 3x Pro Bowl, 1x SB Champion (2024)
- Cam Jurgens in 4 seasons: 2x Pro Bowl, 1x SB Champion (2024)

Some of Stoutland’s unsung heroes during his 13 years:
In the city of Philadelphia, there are many strong colleges, such as Temple, Drexel, Swarthmore, Saint Joseph’s, Villanova, and UPenn. Yet, for the last 13 years, the most successful university in the City of Brotherly Love has been Stoutland University. With that being said, when looking to the future, it is important to remember that Stoutland brought grit and integrity to the city of Philadelphia, and showed it through the big men upfront.
It will be hard to find someone with half of the ability Stoutland had, but nevertheless, Stoutland’s impact has been implanted into the team’s culture. Under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, with reports stating Stoutland will likely remain in a different, reduced role on the team, as long as Stoutland’s standards remain intact, the Eagles enter next year with every reason to be optimistic.

He has watched the 76ers since the days of Sam Hinkie and hopes to watch the process be completed. Along with that, he picked up a love for the Philadelphia Union shortly before the pandemic, and has seen them win multiple Supporters’ Shields in person. Lastly, and most importantly, he is a major football lover and an even bigger Eagles lover. Since developing his love for The Birds in elementary school, he has made it his goal to never miss a game.
