Howie Roseman continues to bolster the Eagles roster.
After picking up a season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles have made another trade, acquiring Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby.
The Eagles are sending a 2026 fifth and sixth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for Bigsby, as they continue to trade away the excess of draft picks that they own in this year’s upcoming draft.
While some assumed that this move was made in response to the injury that Will Shipley suffered in Thursday’s season opener, and although Shipley is dealing with a rib injury, this move is actually a result of the Eagles’ desire to improve their kickoff returns.
Bigsby joins a loaded running back room of reigning Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, AJ Dillon, and Shipley, as mentioned above. Including this season, Bigsby has two years left on his rookie deal.
Last season, Bigsby rushed for 766 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry, and scored eight total touchdowns. Bigsby saw an increased role last season due to the struggles and injuries of the Jaguars’ starting running back, Travis Etienne. Heading into 2025, Bigsby and Etienne, along with rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten, competed for Jacksonville’s starting job, with Etienne winning it.
The move likely indicates that the Jaguars feel Bigsby is the odd man out in the running back room and now acquire draft capital in next year’s draft. Bigsby will be the primary return specialist for the Eagles moving forward and will likely split backup offensive snaps between him, Dillion, and Shipley.
