Hector Neris moves on, signs deal with Astros

The Hector Neris era is over in Philadelphia. At least, for now.
Today, around lunchtime, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported that Hector Neris signed a multimillion dollar deal with the Houston Astros. The deal is worth seventeen million dollars for two years, pending a physical.
The Hector Neris rumor pot went from simmering to boiling really quick this morning. Multiple teams, including the Phillies, were in on talks with Hector and his agent. Although, as talks advanced, the Phillies dropped out of the race for the splitter-throwing right hander who has been on the Phils major league team since 2014. He had a 3.72 ERA between 2016 and 2021 and was striking batters out left and right. In the second half of last season, Neris succeeded in a setup role and got his groove back after a rough first-half in the closers role.
The Astros have been to the playoffs seven straight seasons and are coming off another strong season finishing atop the American league.
Neris will leave behind multiple records within the Phillies organization as well as the longest tenured player within the organization. He was a big presence in the clubhouse with his goofy attitude and ability to pick others up on and off the mound.
The Phillies remain interested in many free agent relievers including Mychal Givens and Ryan Tepera.
