Sam Morin scores first NHL goal to lead Flyers in 2-1 win

It’s been a very rough week, and month for the Philadelphia Flyers. They went into Saturday afternoon’s game trying to snap a four-game losing streak. Thanks to good defense, good penalty killing, and especially Sam Morin, the Flyers broke that skid with a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Period 1
Kevin Hayes won the opening draw, and we’re underway!
The Flyers had a great start as they had more than one shot on goal through two minutes. This might not seem like a lot, but this is huge for the Flyers. This is obviously sarcasm.
This was a notable moment early in the game as the Flyers basically handed the puck away. They were skating up the ice, and in the neutral zone the Rangers tipped the puck away into what turned into a four-on-two or something ridiculous like that. This is what’s been the Flyers’ biggest struggle, turnovers and then bad defense.
Other than that, the Flyers had some good defense through 10 minutes.
Travis Konecny would head to the sin bin for roughing. Rangers had the first power play of the game. With 40 seconds remaining on the power play, Mika Zibanejad skated over to the point, pass the puck to Adam Fox, who passed it over to Ryan Strome, who shot a beautiful pass to Zibanejad in front of the net. And of course, Zibanejad slam dunked the puck into the net to make 1-0 New York. Zibanejad now has seven goals against the Flyers this season, and he has four against the rest of East Division.

Flyers: 16 shots on goal, 10 hits, 14 faceoffs won, 2 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 8 shots on goal, 14 hits, 8 faceoffs won, 0 penalty minutes.
Even though the Flyers were unable to get on the board, it was a very good period by the Flyers. Good defense, goaltending, and lots of shots on goal. They just couldn’t get those shots in the back of the net. The penalty kill may still not’ve been great, but the Flyers looked much better in that first than they have in a while.
Period 2
Strome won the opening faceoff to start the second period.
After an incredible save by Igor Shesterkin as he absolutely robs Michael Raffl, K’Andre Miller gets called for tripping. Rangers killed the Flyers’ power play.
After the Flyers get absolutely nothing done on the power play, Raffl went to the box for tripping. Flyers killed off New York’s power play.
During a break, TK took a puck to the kisser from Smith. TK’s lip was bleedding, and the referees did a whole lot of nothing about it.
Chris Kreider off for tripping Kevin Hayes. Shayne Gostisbehere would then get tripped by Kevin Rooney. Flyers get a golden opportunity with 1:17 of five-on-three time. Philadelphia lost every faceoff while having the two-man advantage along with no one wanting to shoot the puck, which inevitably killed the Kreider penalty. With less than 10 seconds left in the power play, Gostisbehere received a pass from Sean Couturier. Gostisbehere shot a hard slap shot, that was deflected by Nolan Patrick, and went into the net for a much needed power play goal.
Philippe Myers to the box for roughing. He caught Alexis Lafrenière in the face with a glove. The power play went over time, the Rangers started the third with :06 of five-on-four time.
Period stats
Flyers: 13 shots on goal, 10 hits, 10 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 11 shots on goal, 8 hits, 7 faceoffs won, 6 penalty minutes.
After 40 minutes of play,the Flyers and Rangers were knotted up at one.
Period 3
Rangers started the third with :06 of five-on-four time as Ryan Strome won the opening faceoff for the Rangers. The Flyers killed the final six seconds.
Scott Laughton gets robbed on a breakaway by Shesterkin with the glove save. Shesterkin had an incredible game. And Jordan Hall from NBC Sports Philadelphia had a joke he decided tweet out:
Not bad… Jordan.
Laughton off for tripping. Flyers killed it. Flyers were solid on the penalty kill, except for the first one,
Nicolas Aube-Kubel passed the puck over to Samuel Morin with 4:30 left in the third. Morin would then rip a slap shot that went into the net to give the Flyers the lead, and his teammates loved it!
The Rangers pulled their goalie with approximately 1:30 remaining. And it didn’t even seem like it as the Rangers filled in for it with three blocked shots.
The Flyers were able to pull out a huge two points over the Rangers with a 2-1 win.

Flyers: 31 shots on goal, 22 hits, 26 faceoffs won, 6 penalty minutes.
Rangers: 18 shots on goal, 22 hits, 26 faceoffs won, 6 penalty minutes.
