In my first day back after my week-long break, the Philadelphia Flyers didn’t change. The Flyers upset all the fans again in a 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Pretend I put the correct score. Devils won, not the Flyers.

Recap:

Period 1

Sean Couturier won the opening faceoff for the Flyers, and we’re underway.

Michael McLeod gets it started for the Devils as, surprise surprise, the Flyers forgot to play defense.

Ty Smith would head to the penalty box for interference. The Flyers went on their first power play of the evening. On the PP, Jakub Voracek dumped a shot from the faceoff circle, Joel Farabee kept digging away at it and got the puck in the net to tie this game up at one.

Travis Sanheim got his stick held, but then went to the box for holding. Devils had power play with 1:26 left in the first. Kyle Palmieri would score in the power play off a turnover by Kevin Hayes.

Period stats

Flyers: 8 shots-on-goal, 5 hits, 8 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.

Devils: 14 shots-on-goal, 3 hits, 11 faceoffs won, 2 penalty minutes.

After one period of play, the Devils led 2-1.

Period 2

Travis Zajac won the opening draw.

Smith in the box again for hooking. Devils killed the power play.

Sanheim back to the box for tripping, this time it’s legitimate. Flyers killed.

Right after, Lindblom off for tripping for another Devils power play. Flyers killed this one off as well.

After a fantastic play by Phil Myers on a New Jersey two-on-one, he allows a turnover, followed up by a Yegor Sharangovich goal to make it 3-1 Devils.

Palmieri would get called for high-sticking. Devils killed the power play.

Travis Zajac scores at the front of the net to make it 4-1 Devils.

Period stats

Flyers: 9 shots-on-goal, 9 hits, 13 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.

Devils: 11 shots-on-goal, 4 hits, 9 faceoffs won, 4 penalty minutes.

After four minutes of play, the Devils lead 4-1.

Period 3

Nolan Patrick won the opening faceoff to start the final 20 minutes of play.

Sean Couturier with a transition rush goal off a nice pass from Travis Konecny. The goal cut the Devils’ lead in half.

Carter Hart got pulled for the extra attacker with 2:51 left. It would work as Voracek put the puck in front and Couturier scored to make it 4-3.

The comeback would fall short as the Flyers lost 4-3.

Game stats

Flyers: 33 shots-on-goal, 19 hits, 38 faceoffs won, 8 penalty minutes.

Devils: 32 shots-on-goal, 13 hits, 29 faceoffs won, 6 penalty minutes.
