On Tuesday afternoon the Phillies announced that they will name Sam Fuld their new general manager. Fuld is a former MLB player, he’s been working in the Phillies front office since 2017 as a director of integrative baseball performance.

Fuld played in the MLB for eight seasons for four different teams. Fuld was then hired by the Phillies to be their director of integrative baseball performance.

Fuld will report to Dave Dombrowski, who was hired by  the Phillies’ earlier this month to be the Phils’ first-ever president of baseball operations.

Earlier this fall, Fuld was a candidate for the Boston Red Sox managerial job. He obviously didn’t get it as he was the runner-up to Alex Cora, who got the job.

Jorge Velandia will be the Phillies’ assistant GM. Velandia played in the MLB with six different clubs from 1997-2008. He has spent the last decade in many different player development, player personnel, coaching and advisory roles in the Phillies organization.

Sam Fuld’s press conference is set to be December 22 at 4:30 PM EST on Phillies social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube). I will be covering the press conference on my Twitter page as well (@PhlySprtsReprts).

Let’s hope Fuld is better than that last general manager we just had *rolls eyes*.
