76ers first-half schedule breakdown

The Philadelphia 76ers released the first-half of their schedule on Friday afternoon. I think it’s time to go fully in-depth on half of this schedule.

I’ve been asked this question a couple of times, why only half? The NBA is playing it safe. They don’t know if they’ll get past a half of the season due to COVID-19. So it’s really smart for the NBA to do what they did.

Keep in mind the 76ers have changed a lot since last season. This includes a new head coach, a new president, etc. So, let’s start breaking down this schedule. 

To start, let’s look at the schedule:

Here are the games broken down by month.

DECEMBER: 5 games (2 home, 3 road)

JANUARY: 17 games (9 home, 8 road)

FEBRUARY: 13 games (6 home, 7 road)

MARCH: 2 games (2 home)

There are 19 home games, 18 away games. This is in favor for the Sixers because of home-field (in this case court) advantage. One problem for the Sixers is the 76ers will not have fans at games until further notice from Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenny. The 76ers were 31-4 in the 2019-20 NBA season, including the bubble and the two playoff losses. That was the best home record in the NBA last season. Now on the other hand, the Sixers were not so good on the road last season. They were 12-26 including the bubble and the two playoff losses, which is one of the worst in the NBA. 

The Sixers have 24 games against eastern conference teams. In the 2019-20 season, the 76ers were 28-18 against eastern conference teams. They were pretty good against the east last season as 28-18 actually wasn’t bad for the east last season. 

The Sixers have 3 back-to-back games this season. There are 3 times where the Sixers will play the same team twice. What I mean by that, for example, on January 2th and 4th, the Sixers will play the Hornets on both of these games at home. That happens 2 more times. This is due to it being so hard to travel a lot now due to COVID, so this just happens now.
